Why are coral reefs so important?

Besides providing us divers, and snorkelers, something amazing to look at while we are in the water? Coral reefs are important because they help protect our coastlines from waves and tropical storm damage. Also, they assist in carbon and nitrogen fixing. Most importantly, coral reefs provide habitats and shelter for all those little sea creatures we love to see. This is why we feel the AWARE Coral Reef Conservation course is essential. Conservation is crucial not only to our ocean experiences, but to the health of our planet.

What your conservation class will teach you

The Coral Reef Conservation course explains how coral reefs function. We’ll talk about life on the reef and all of its complexities. Then, we’ll discuss why so many of our precious reefs are in trouble and what has been causing all the issues we hear about and see. Finally, we’ll cover how you can help in preventing the further decline of these fascinating ecosystems.

If conservation is your thing, and who doesn’t like preserving the things we love, then the information gleaned from this course will go well with the PADI Fish Identification course. Knowing about the reefs and the fish species populations that inhabit them will give us a different perspective on the places we visit and what we can do to assist in the conservation.
